General Meeting

 

Having reached a quorum, Commander Fred Grune called the meeting to order at 6:58 PM.

 

Minutes of last meeting:  A motion was made by Paulette Grune, with a second by Tom Lynch to accept them with the following changes: that the Adjutant General’s Report will appear in the mailed The Sentinel, which shall include an open and closing amount; the Life Membership discussed previously will appear on the November ballot; that Paulette and Fred Grune are paying for the 4thWard School plaque; that items erroneously appearing in the electronic version last month be removed.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Guests: Robert Burr, one of our members not seen in a while.

 

staff officer Reports:

 

CommanderFred Grune expressed his delight in the Ft. Churchill turnout and hopes that attendance in events and recruiting will continue to grow.

 

INSPECTOR GENERAL:  Tom Hudson reported on the status report on ISP, details in mailed The Sentinel.

 

ADJUTANT GENERAL:  Joann Miller - Absent.

 

Civilian Chief of Staff:  Paulette Grune reported on the Governor’s Mansion Host & Hostess invitation reminder and head count, [If you are a NCWV member & interested in participating, please contact Paulette.  This will be on October 27th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM].  Pipers Opera House reminder about bunting, flags, and they asked if we might help supply desserts for the Governor’s Ball.  Paulette has volunteered to get everything to Virginia City if donors can get the items to her in a timely fashion.  Again please call Paulette to coordinate efforts.  The NCWV will be recognized as Supporters of The Ball.  Although we’re not marching in the Nevada Day Parade, the Carson Rendezvous folks have invited NCWV members to march with them.  Reminder that the B-B-Q and shoot is November 11, and to think about a side dish to bring.  Further details and coordination efforts will be made at the November General Meeting at the latest.

 

Confederate Chief of Staff:  Bud Miller - Absent.

 

Union Chief of Staff:  Tom Lynch has updated the webpage including changes to the B-B-Q.  Shooters should show by 9:00 AM at the usual site, and food starts at 1:00 PM.  If in doubt, e-mail a staff member and we’ll get you set up.  Also a reminder to think about a side dish.

 

Safety Marshal: Carley McConnell - Absent.

 

ChaplainBill McConnell: had nothing to report at this time.

 

Unfinished Business:

 

Bower’s Mansion discussion.  Louise McConnell reminded everyone that are participating to be there, dressed, and ready to go by 10:30 AM.

 

New Business

 

The NCWV has been invited to take part in Carson City’s Ghost Walk on October  20, 2007.  If you’re interested in participating, meet at Telegraph Square at 9:00 AM, in Civil War attire, for assignment to a house or area that will be in the tour. For further information, please call 782-2555.  Wally has asked that anyone interested in doing the Ghost Walk with him is welcome, he’ll be doing the ‘Blue Lines’ at noon & 1500.

 

We have had a number of members toss their hats in the ring for Staff Offices for the coming year, full details in mailed The Sentinel.

 

The idea of a time capsule was brought up, further discussion to follow.

 

Wally Earhart informed the members that there is an extensive photo display of the NCWV at the Carson City Library.  The coverage starts from our early days to fairly recent times.

 

Bernadette Franke had a picture of us from the earlier days at Fort Churchill published in the Reno Gazette Journal, in the October 5 edition; you’ll have to go to www.rgj.com to find it.  Can you name the members pictured?
